Install Dodge
The browser extension for Firefox, Chrome, and Edge is still in development.

The Dodge extension is free and open source, and will support Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. It is still in development and under code review, and has not been submitted to any browser store yet, so there is nothing to install yet. The rest of this page describes how it will work.

Where it works
On most large streaming services, the extension can't take over the page's player. Swapping in the Dodge player only works when a site plays video with dash.js, the open-source video player Dodge is built into. Content providers like YouTube and Netflix use their own custom players instead, so there is nothing for the extension to swap, and the pop-up will tell you the tab isn't something it can act on.
The extension's built-in safe player always works. Open it from the pop-up and give it any DASH stream (the format most streaming sites use; see how video fingerprinting works), and it plays that stream with a defense applied, with no cooperation needed from the site hosting the video. We recommend it whenever the pop-up says a page playing DASH video can't be protected and for users with stronger threat models.
The extension can swap in Dodge automatically on sites that already use dash.js, and sites that have integrated the dash.js module themselves arrive defended with no extension at all. The second case is what we envision for Dodge; the extension exists so you don't have to wait for content providers to integrate, and so you have more control over how the videos you watch are defended.
Once it's available
Click the Dodge icon in your browser's toolbar any time you're on a page with video. The pop-up tells you what's happening on that tab. Nothing else about your browsing changes.
- A verdict for the tab. The pop-up checks the page and tells you whether it's protected or not.
- Automatic protection where it's available. On certain sites that have been configured to use dash.js but not Dodge, the extension can swap in the Dodge player automatically. This will not always succeed.
- The safe player, always available. Whatever the verdict, you can open the extension's built-in player page from the pop-up and watch a defended stream there. This always works for DASH video and guarantees Dodge is configured correctly.
For website owners
If you run a video site and would rather defend your own player directly than rely on viewers having the Dodge extension, integrate the dash.js module.
